About the Exhibit:
Juxtaposed to the “day job” of saving the world, the banality of Superman doing the dishes opens us up to a mundane reality and the poetry of pathos. This is the genius of William Wray, an artist who grapples with the texture of decay, both literally and figuratively.

Timed to coincide with the most recent mega-installment of The Avengers franchise “William Wray: Sidewalk Saviors” lays bare a less flattering reality, revealing the hidden underbelly of our heroes’ lives in beautiful compositions.

The super heroes of the movie collaborate and even compete to show off their magnificent powers, whereas Wray’s figures are loners easily defeated by gravity … or by doing the laundry, fighting obesity, bad posture, struggling with self-esteem, or a myriad of other issues.

The artist’s work begs the question: Who really are these masked “saviors” … and what is the true nature of their heroism?
